AYMBF NYT

This is the image THE NEW YORK TIMES used for the piece that includes #AYMBF. So pleased to share space with other bestsellers!

The New York Times published a piece about picture books for grown-ups that mentions Are You My Boyfriend?.

I am grateful.

I am happy.

And I am looking forward to talking about this book so much more, because it is so much more than a commercial take on a popular concept.

In fact, I had the idea for #AYMBF seven years ago—before children’s book parodies were popular—and, unlike some of the other books mentioned in the article, #AYMBF in no way pretends to be for children, even though it is sincere and empowering and totally fine for a kid to read.

(I watched my friend read it to her toddler, actually. She did swap the word “sexy” with “pretty,” but other than that, no edits necessary!)

This book, as my publisher says in the NYT article, captures certain truths in a lighthearted way, and I absolutely love that I get to share some of the values most important to me (equality, self-confidence, unconditional okayness) in such a fun and relatable format.

I’m so excited to share Are You My Boyfriend? with you (and the world—tell your friends!), because I believe it can encourage conversations about dating and relationships and feminism and hope and reassurance and relaxation that we can all benefit from having.

Big thanks to The New York Times for getting the dialogue started, and I’d love to hear your thoughts as well!
