If you are single, or you know someone who is, a copy of Are You My Boyfriend? is the antidote to any sort of related distress or negativity.

Trust me, I know of what I speak. I mean, obviously, because I wrote the book. But more recently, because a few weeks ago I went to a wedding and at one point I was literally embodying a scene from the pages of #AYMBF.

Near the beginning there is this great illustration spread where the main character  is sitting alone at a table watching everyone else dance.

AYMBF wedding

Art imitating life.

And that is exactly what happened to me at this wedding. As I sat there, doing my best not to feel sorry for my totally single self, I thought OH MY GOD I HAVE BECOME MY BOOK.

Or is it just that my book knows exactly where I’ve been, and where I likely would be again?

At any rate, in that moment it became excruciatingly clear to me that if you know anyone who is single, and especially if they might be attending a wedding alone this summer, pretty much the kindest thing you could do is  give them a copy of the book. Just saying.

(And yes, after the wedding I absolutely did sit down and read my own dang book. Because it actually really, truly, does make me feel better EVERY SINGLE TIME.)
