You can create whatever you want.

Sometimes I am reminded of this truth in unexpected ways:

believe

I went to church on Sunday and the youth group was running the show. Right before they called all the grown-ups down to the chancel for “Adult Time,” they passed around a basket full of…well, I didn’t know what, yet. They just said it was a reminder of God’s love for us.

When I got hold of the basket and saw a pile of flat gold pieces, I thought maybe they were passing out chocolate coins. (Because if chocolate isn’t proof of God’s love for us, what is?)

But they were passing out rocks. Some were professionally embossed with words like “love” and “family.” They looked like the kind of trinkets you buy at cash registers in gift shops.

The stone I chose, however, appeared handmade. It looked like someone had written the word “believe” in permanent marker, and that was exactly why I wanted it.

Because belief is something I have to choose. It doesn’t come pre-embossed on my rock of a brain; I get to decide what messages I want to send and receive.

And I’m grateful to have something solid that helps me remember.

Love > fear,

Christina

p.s. I simply cannot write about the word “believe,” on #thankyouthursday no less, without giving you this. You‘re welcome (and/or I’m sorry).
